The Men of Distinction, which began in 1997 was an idea created by Bishop C.D. Kinsey, Presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ, Central Florida Jurisdiction to be a Christ centered ministry that helps to change the plight of African American men and their relation to their families and communities. In February of 1997 the first meeting was held at the Leesburg Public Library with several charter members, Minister John Christian, Mr. Marcus Niblack, Mr. Coy Poitier, Mr. Gilbert Niblack, Pastor Lonnie Smith, Evangelist Constance Christian, Pastor Joseph Wiggins, and Mr. Hal Reeves. The thought that there were more African Americans men in prison than in college called these men and women to action. Since then, The Men of Distinction, continues to make great strides into the Leesburg and Lake County as many lives are changed in our community.
